Founded in 1975 by Guru Maneesha Sathe, Maneesha Nrityalay (मनीषा नृत्यालय) is a one of the leading Kathak institutes in Pune.
Performing arts were learnt through Guru-Shishya (गुरु – शिष्य) parampara for several centuries in India. The disciple would actually stay at the Guru’s home for many years, practicing and learning all the time. Today, the times have changed and now it may hardly be practical for a student to stay with the Guru for extended periods. Pt. Maneesha Sathe believes, complete and unconditional faith in the Guru, and practicing under his/her watchful guidance are aspects of this parampara which we can follow today as well.
In 1975, Maneesha Sathe founded the Maneesha Nrityalaya Charitable Trust, a Kathak dance institute, with the sole aim of training the young generation in Kathak, and moreover, providing them with a platform for performances. The institute continues to offer outstanding young dancers to the field of Kathak.
Regular classes for aspiring Kathak performers are conducted at Maneesha Nrityalaya, and is open from 6pm to 8pm Monday-Saturday.
